The Lincoln Street facility is recognized as a national model program. This building offers assimilated apartment living for older clients in a secure environment, staffed around-the-clock by a multidisciplinary treatment team. The Lincoln Street location offers easy access to all major bus lines, community resources, vocational schools, community colleges and many employment opportunities. Because most of the residents at Lincoln have no families to whom they can return, they will be on their own in their late teens. This intermediate step is essential for successful emancipation. Intensive independent living skills development is a primary focus at Lincoln, and our residents learn personal and financial responsibility. They sign a six-month lease -- renewable one time -- and pay a damage deposit. We require all residents to work (full-time or part-time) and they must pay 30 percent of their monthly net income for rent.

The Lincoln facility has four apartments for pregnant or parenting teens, and occasionally for those girls working towards regaining custody. Parental care and parenting skills are the primary concerns. The treatment team works closely with the family, social services, probation, the school, etc. to develop a comprehensive treatment plan. In addition to a weekly group, which offers an avenue to deal with issues related to being a teen mother. School is a critical part of the mother’s program, as well as, developing outside support system. The girls are also expected to attend additional groups: family therapy, and individual therapy. A high percentage of teen mothers have experienced sexual and/or physical abuse, therefore making this population particularly complex. Our teen mothers need to learn how to put their child’s needs ahead of their own. The overall goals are breaking the cycles of intergenerational abuse and the learning of self-sufficiency.
