Family TherapyFamily therapy is strongly encouraged at Third Way Center. However, due to the fact that many of our resident’s parents have deserted them or died, traditional techniques have to be modified. Frequently, we assist our residents in finding a family connection, friend, teacher or neighbor to become involved and participate in the resident’s life. Third Way Center’s residents experience greater success when families are involved, whatever the capacity. Family therapy is an integral part of the treatment planning. Master’s level therapists take the primary role in working with the family. Individualized plans are developed within the multidisciplinary teams and the staff take a "whatever works" approach. Weekly family therapy is offered in addition to a weekly multi-family group. Ongoing supervision is provided both individually and in a group setting. The groups offer education, support, therapy and food to the parents of our residents. The group is run by a Master’s level therapist who is licensed in family therapy. Staff is very active at making contact with family members of our residents. They have taken teens to visit family members that are unable to come to one of our facilities. The program also encourages making contact with family members living out of state in order to establish, maintain or repair connections between family members.
