Educational Expectations

Most of our residents attend Third Way Center’s alternative, Colorado Dept. of Education approved high school program, "The Joan Farley Academy" located in central downtown Denver. In rare cases, our residents are still able to attend and be successful in the public school system.  Either way, we encourage our youth to obtain a high school diploma, but if that is not possible (due to age or skill level) they are required to obtain their GED.  Every Third Way resident is required to be involved in some sort of educational program, either high school, another alternative school, public high school, vocational schools, GED programs, junior college or college as appropriate and suitable to the resident.  All residents are required to obtain a high school diploma or GED.  Necessary steps are taken to ensure that each client is placed in the proper educational program to meet his or her needs.

Each resident is required to obtain weekly progress reports from each class charting both attendance and performance.  In addition, each resident’s case manager is in regular contact with his or her teachers to ensure that proper academic standards are being maintained.  A tutor is employed part-time to give the resident’s additional assistance with their schoolwork.

For more detailed information, please visit the Joan Farley Academy page.
